Detailed description of Blue Rock Springs Golf Course, West Course

Blue Rock Springs Golf Course is a Public, 36 hole golf facility located in Vallejo, California.

There are two 18 hole course at the Blue Rock Springs golf facility. They are The West Course and The East Course

The older of the two courses at Blue Rock Springs is the West Course. It first opened for play in 1941 The course was designed by Jack Fleming.

Characteristic to both courses are sloping tree-lined fairways. Both courses were built on hilly terrain. The West Course has more trees than East Course. Since the trees are more mature on the older West Course, the course is the more target golf layout. However, locals consider the East Course to be the more difficult of the two courses.

The West course (6,014 yards, par 71) is tree-lined, has several elevation changes and a number of challenging holes. It underwent a $1.5 million renovation in 2006.

Do not bother to play here. Better to practice at the driving range.

Would travel: 0-10 Miles, Not Vacation Worthy
Bottom line: Worse than average course for the area

Nice course, but I would recommend the EAST course as it is a bit more challenging and pace of play seems to be quicker. It had rained for a few days prior to playing so there were soggy fairways and the greens were bumpy. Still, I play here 1-2 times/month and recommend both Blue Rock courses.

Would travel: 20-30 Miles, Not Vacation Worthy
Bottom line: I would play again, Average course for the area

I have played here hundreds of times and it is still fun. This time the greens were rolling as well, if not better, than higher priced courses in the area. I notice people have mentioned that there are houses on the course, and I feel it should be said that there are only three holes where houses are close enough to notice. The feeling of the course is mostly that of a tree-lined rural course. The staff in the pro shop are always friendly and accommodating.

Would travel: 0-10 Miles
Bottom line: I would play again, Ranks with the best in this price level, Bargain priced based on quality and competitive area pricing

I'm a little biased (home course) but honestly the greens are in great shape and the fairways are running firm (not hard) and are well maintained. Trees come into play and although it appears to be fairly straight forward layout they will come into play. Wind is almost always a factor and there are two great risk/reward par 4's and a nice mix of par 5's. Hole 14 always presents a challenge - par is like a birdie there.

This is among the least expensive courses in the Bay Area, yet it provides a very good golf experience. Its not manicured or loaded with amenities, but its in good condition with a good layout.
